Cactus in Bloom

Lace Hedgehog Cactus
Hedgehog cactus, Echinocereus reichenbachii

Had a good hike today at Government Canyon. I did the perimeter, which is about 11.5 miles. Numerous new wildflowers and I did get a couple of good photos. There were a few blooming cacti, the kind with the incredible magenta bloom. Also I came across a hognose snake, the first I recall ever seeing. This was around the 30 marker of Sendero Balcones.

This beautiful speciman has a lot names. From the PictureThis App—Also known as Lace Cactus, Purple Candle Cactus, Bailey’s Hedgehog Cactus, Fitch’s Hedgehog Cactus, Lace Hedgehog, Purple Candle, Hedgehog Cactus.
