Video 11 was recorded in June 1993 and was made for a very good friend of mine—Dean Thompson. Dean taught Life Science (7th grade) next door to my classroom at Colegio Roosevelt. His wife JoAnne worked in the counseling office. Both were from Utah (like me!) Both these folks were very adventuresome and involved in the school and the community for the 3 years they were in Lima (1990-1992). Below is a photo I took when I visited them after they returned to their home in Roy, Utah.

The purpose of the video was to have different faculty members tell a bad joke. Dean had a reputation for telling jokes and this was just a way to show how fond we were of him and JoAnne. Before the jokes there is a video clip of Dean clowning around with his sophomore biology class.

Hedy was fortunate to interview some family members while we were gathered in Lima. While reviewing the trove of videos that I had recently digitized at times I get reminiscences from a family member and will place them on this blog posting. So, this posting will be updated as I come across them. Here are two videos of historic importance to the family—

Here is a short video from tape 7 (keep in mind that the video was recorded on 8mm tape and then stored in various boxes for more than 30 years until “discovered” and digitized in December 2022, hence the quality might not be the greatest)—

Hey folks! I just completed reviewing the sixth digitized video of an 8mm tape that was filmed 12/31/88 to 7/3/89. Unfortunately some filming that was indoors at night came out pretty dark. Their is a wonderful interview Hedy made with her father and it involved a lot of details about her side of the family. The audio is clear but the video is dark.

The fifth digitized tape [01:36:43] had some very nice moments in family history. About half of the video, however, documents Halloween and Christmas Parties at Colegio Roosevelt and would probably be of limited interest other than curiosity. There are a few nature shots that are regrettable but one can quickly scan through them. I have a few notes that will help to find certain sequences in the video—

The fourth 8mm tape recently digitized takes place during March-May, 1988 and is only 00:24:40 in duration.

The video begins with an exciting car wash of our Suzuki! Look for participation by Romanela, Sophi, Nataly, Vivian, Mom and Dad.

I’ve previewed the third 8mm tape. The digitized version is 1:36:47. It begins Jan. 20, 1988 at Grandma’s house in Lincoln. The first part is Nataly’s 3rd birthday and all the chaos associated with it.

The video includes a February 4, 1988 sequence at 131 Los Bananos in Lima. Papa Victor, Grandma Hayes, Sophi, Cati, Suzi, Nata, Lucho and Ruth are all featured.

The next segment takes place February 6, 1988 at Santa Maria Beach, outside of Lima. Grandma, Nata, Viv, Dad and Mom are featured.

A segment filmed Feb 7, 1988 at the Pachacamac Ruins just southeast of Lima in the Lurin River valley.  Our Suzuki is featured.

The next segment is back to happenings at Los Bananos.

A segment filmed February 11, 1988 documents our trip with Grandma to Cuzco. Quenko, Tambomanchay, Pisac, and Ollantaytambo are featured as well. Sophi (just barely 2 years old) was left in Lima with Ruth at our house on Los Bananos.

The video continues with documenting our train ride to Macchu Pichu (Feb 13 and 14) and the family exploring the ruins and hiking the Inca Trail to the Inti Puntu and concludes with a walk through Aquas Caliente.

The video concludes with a trip to Lago LLanganuco and Paracas. I didn’t catch the date but probably mid February, 1988.
